Question:

"Do I really need a website?"

Answer:

Having an Internet presence and an unique e-mail address is essential in today's escalating medium of communication. The World Wide Web is the fastest growing market of advertising in history. The web is an invaluable tool to provide others with information. It has become as important as having a business card or phone number, however, a web site provides advertising and accessibility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

GETTING STARTED

We fully understand - from experience - that many people are hesitant in seeking advice because they fear making a commitment before they have a confident understanding of what is involved - and more especially what it might cost them. That in itself is a "catch 22" situation! As a result, many ponder over the idea of getting a Web-site, but never actually get around to it - it's often a "when I know more about it" or "when I get around to it" or "when I can afford it" situation. Invariably it never gets done.

For that reason we offer (within our catchment area) a first appointment consultancy meeting ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE and without commitment or obligation. We will come and visit you at your home or work place and informally discuss with you what your needs are, and what may be the pros and cons of the project. We'll answer all your questions and will provide you with a sound platform to make an informed decision in your own time. For those outside our catchment area we can still provide a Web design service regardless of where you live, but for practical geographic reasons we may not be able to meet with you face to face.

WHAT NEXT?

Decision. Once you have made the decision to have a website, and also decided what type of site you need, (TIP: a good idea is to make a note of the URL address of any existing sites you've seen and liked on the Web. This will give us a good idea of what you want) the next step is to choose a Domain Name.

Domain, A domain name is the address that Internet viewers use to access your web-site (your URL). Your domain name is your identity on the Internet and is similar to having your own phone number. Essentially, domain names serve as routing addresses on the Internet. Your domain name will also form part of your e-mail address e.g. you@yourdomain.com. You can register your domain name right now with us - before leaving this page. If you already have a domain name then you will need to change it's DNS to "point" to our servers. We offer fantastic rates for domain name registrations.

Hosting. After choosing your domain name you will need a home for it. You can host your domain on our servers. For more information on our comprehensive Hosting Plans please click on the "Hosting" tab above or if you would like to see a full features comparison list of the plans we offer click on the button to your right. We offer hosting services for as little as £2.99 per month! The most competitive and feature-packed Hosting Plan available anywhere in the UK.

Web Space. After you register your domain name and have chosen your Hosting Plan with us you will be allocated disk space on our servers (the "space" varies from 300Mb to 1.5Gb - depending on the Plan you choose - you can upgrade at any time). That "space" is where you (your Webmaster or us) will store your web-site files and associated programmes, graphics, scripts, e-mail accounts info etc. as a guideline the average disk space used by most of our clients is in the region of 30Mb). To upload information to your web space whoever looks after your web-site will requires FTP software.

Web-site Design. We can register your domain name, supply you with a Hosting Plan, design your web-site for you, and maintain it afterwards - so we'll look after you from "scratch to finish". If you want to do the design yourself, or wish to engage a "Webmaster" to do the work on your behalf then that's o.k. - we'll provide any technical assistance that you may require as a goodwill gesture - if you have an account with us and host your site on our servers. By now - if you've read this far - you're click to tell a friend or colleague about our site wondering how much we charge. Here's the REALLY good news! For static sites we charge a flat rate per page. This is perfect for personal use including hobbies/ interest, clubs,  business or services advertising etc. The vast majority of web-sites are of this variety. The cost is £150.00 for each page, up to a file size of 100Kb per page (as a guideline the largest page on this very site is 38Kb in size - so you've got plenty of scope!) That includes all the graphic designs, HTML coding, scripting, Macromedia Flash etc. If you want us to maintain your site, make periodic changes to content (without a full redesign), we charge an annual fee of  £80.00 (paid in advance). For dynamic pages using more advanced server-side programs, frequently based on the likes of  PHP, Perl, JSP etc. we have a different pricing structure. Dynamic pages are often associated with e-commerce sites using shopping carts and other associated dynamic content. If you need us to design a professional commercial site with shopping cart facilities and online shop set-ups then we have to negotiate a price with you - based on your needs and the total project work requirement from us.

Custom Web Design Schedule

Your website is your online reflection of your business or personal intention to the world. It is a visual Internet communication and provides permanent advertising with accessibility 365 days a year for viewers to gather information or to purchase products.

S C Cambria offers professional, custom website designs, tailored specifically to our clients needs (not based on cheaply bought template designs off the web, where each site based on that template looks like all others - that is the lazy shortcut method that some less professional web designers use). Detailed orientated and committed to excellence, our focus is to develop websites that are aesthetically pleasing, easy to navigate, with quick download times - each website is also unique to each client.

Approach
S C Cambria is dedicated to offering personal attention to our clients. We work closely with our clients to provide unique web design solutions that will make a lasting impression on your Internet audience. We communicate the development process in a logical and comprehensive manner.

Define
The first step is to define the website goals. Will it be an informational site or will it be an e-commerce site? Who is your Internet audience? How many pages and what information do you want to include? What design preferences do you have? After all goals have been gathered, a design proposal is drawn up (a draft design). This proposal includes:

  • Objectives

  • Navigational Structure

  • Content and Page Structure

  • Programming

  • Web Design Costs and Payment Schedules

  • Expected Deliverable Schedule

Design
The next step is to design a prototype based on the proposal. The HTML layout, navigation structure, and functionality are created. The prototype will be uploaded to our server for the client to view and approve.

Development
After the custom website prototype has been approved, the additional pages are developed. Graphics are web optimized for quick loading and content is added. The pages are tested on a wide variety of web browsers and environments to ensure functionality, usability and quality. HTML programming is validated to further ensure that pages render optimally in as many browsers as possible.

Deployment
When the website is complete and all pages have been approved, the website is uploaded to the client’s personal hosting plan on our Linux run servers.  The entire site is again tested to ensure usability and functionality. Finally the site's URL is submitted to ALL the major Search Engines including Google of course! The customer then receives a CD containing all the graphics, HTML coding, copies of all scripts used, and any other material or programmes that we have  created on their behalf - basically the whole web site on a disk - including all the technical details such as server account information, e-mail details, passwords etc.
